Get ready for the test Preparation for The Active Citizen Exam and The Citizenship Test

How does one best prepare for a test? It is always personal how one feels about an upcoming test. It is very common to be excited and nervous. Perhaps you are already well underway with preparations before you have actually registered for the test. Being early is always a huge advantage. The more time you have to prepare, the greater the likelihood of passing - as with many other tests and exams. As soon as you know the date of the test, you have a goal and a deadline to aim for.

Here we provide some tips on how to prepare for The Active Citizen Exam and The Citizenship Test, which consist of a series of multiple-choice questions.

The Active Citizen Exam (Medborgerskabsprøven)

To prepare for The Active Citizen Exam, which can grant permanent residency, there are both written materials and audio files available. The Agency for International Recruitment and Integration provides the official materials, which can be accessed for free here. The material is titled "The Active Citizen Exam - Democracy and Everyday Life in Denmark," and consists of texts and fact sheets, which also include audio files.

A really good tip for preparing is a thorough reading of the written material along with supplementing with the audio version. The questions for the exam are based on what is written in the material. It is also possible to view previous exams and answers, thus getting a sense of what to expect.

The learning materials are updated annually to match the upcoming tests.

The Citizenship Test (Indfødsretsprøven)

When preparing for The Citizenship Test, which you must pass as one of many requirements to apply for Danish citizenship, it is a very good idea to go through the written materials, listen to the audio files, and keep up with Danish news whether on TV, phone, or in newspapers. It is extremely important to be informed about what is happening in Danish society in the period leading up to the test. You can access all learning materials and audio versions for free at the Agency for International Recruitment and Integration here. It is also possible to view past Citizenship Tests to get a sense of what is required.

The written learning material consists of the following 6 chapters: Danish Democracy, The History of Denmark, Denmark and the World, The Danish Economy, Theme Articles, and Danish Cultural Life. During the preparation for The Citizenship Test, it is a good idea to combine both the readable materials and the audio versions.

The learning materials are updated every year to match the upcoming tests.

At A2B, we are happy to guide you in finding the official materials. We always recommend using the Ministry's official website and materials.
